I is for Idea

Here is a question for all you writers.  Where do we go to find ideas?  One hypothesis is that ideas are actually part of a fourth dimension that exists in the mind and that the mind is a world of its own.  Whoa, can we all say existentialism?

Pursuing that thought, the things that ideas refer to are of this world, but the ideas themself and where they originate are not.  So does the mind live in a different kind of reality?  Possibly one where ideas can  attract other ideas?  This is my first A to Z Challenge and I'm blown away by all the creative ideas that my fellow bloggers are sharing.  People may be separated by space and time but they can still be close through the ideas they share.

  1. As I write poetry I get my ideas from family and travelling to different places. I suppose writing a novel is a different outlook altogether.

    1. I love reading poetry but have never tried writing it before. Maybe I'll challange myself to publish a poem during this contest:)

  2. I get asked during pretty much every interview I've done where I get my ideas, and I have to tell the truth: I don't know. :) They just pop into my head, some more fully formed than others, but I can be listening to music, watching television or unloading the dishwasher and pow! A character or storyline just starts bugging me out of nowhere and I have to start writing it. I'm just glad they keep coming and that Scrivener is there to hold the bits and pieces until I can get back to them. :)

  3. That ability is such a gift. My sister-in-law Leigh is like you, ideas just seem to be swirling in her head all the time and she spews them out as quirky short story with an ending that totally takes you off-guard. I think it's a little like singing, either you have that gift of you don't and unfortunately its not one I possess (but I'm working on it:)
